넓고 수평적인 전통 지붕을 가진 덴마크 방문자센터[Wadden Sea visitor center] - Dorte Mandrup Arkitekter

The visitor center in Ribe, a small Danish town in the southwest part of the peninsula of Jutland, was renovated and enlarged by the Copenhagen-based architect Dorte Mandrup. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Wadden Sea National Park stretches all the way to Germany and the Netherlands. Millions of birds make a stop in its marshes in the course of their migratory routes to find food. The construction rises from the ground and appears on the horizon with a gently elongated shape. Containing 2,800 square meters of exhibition space, it blends into the landscape with a sculptural thatched roof taken from local building tradition. The visitor center originally had three wings. A new fourth one evokes neaby farmhouses.

The Wadden Sea Centre is one of forty works shortlisted for the 2022 Mies van der Rohe Award.
